Issue 3

Welcome to Issue Three of Leading Lights from A.C. Lighting.

We are still riding high after our trip to the PLASA show in London, England. Like the LDI show in North America, PLASA is a must see show for many European dealers, rental shops and production companies. The A.C. Entertainment Technologies booth was packed with show goers looking to see the preview of the Chroma-Q Color Force™, Color Charge™ and of course, the highly anticipated preview of Jands Vista 2 Byron.

Jands Vista Byron

Color Block 2

A.C. and Jands provided a preview of a major software upgrade for the revolutionary Jands Vista lighting console at PLASA.

Originally released in 2004, the Vista introduced a whole new approach to constructing light shows, with 'think visually, work visually' as the core concept. The Byron release takes this innovative approach to a new stage, introducing a true second generation of software, completely re-written from the ground up.

The Byron release reflects the attention Jands have paid to user feedback about the Vista, as well as the fresh vision Jands have brought to the whole concept of how a console works. The update provides easier and faster ways to do existing functions, and introduces a host of new features.

The Byron software will be free-of-charge to current users. Some of the key aspects of the new software include:

Gobo Rotators

EtherSwitch 7

Make your stage pop and your ellipsoidals sing with Chroma-Q® gobo rotators - a great way to add texture and motion to your design.

The Twin FX DMX features adjustable dynamic effects including tick-tock, pendulum, shimmer, accelerate, decelerate, fire, water, rotate-pause and shake-pause. The super-reliable and ultra quiet rotator works in DMX mode with any Chroma-Q power supply or in stand-alone mode making them ideal for themed retail applications.

The Chroma-Q Twin FX DMX rotator fits the ETC Source 4, Strand SL, Altman Shakespeare and Selecon Pacific fixtures. It can be operated with either one single or two counter-rotating gobos for stand-alone operation.

LDI offers one of the most extensive professional console training opportunities available anywhere. A.C. Lighting Inc., in conjunction with Jands, will be providing introductory programming training sessions on the Vista console.

This is also an exciting opportunity to see Vista 2 Byron, a major upgrade of Jands' revolutionary Vista lighting system. Class sizes are small to provide the best in hands-on instruction. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Pro-File 'n' Style - Dave Boser

Broadway

After experiencing massive triple linoleum success with my '80s hair metal band, I decided to search out new horizons in the entertainment biz. Since I still owed the bank for the bands lighting rig, the career path of "Lighting Designer" became an easy decision. Fast forward thru hundreds of bands you never heard of and I finally find myself a home as staff LD for Image Technologies Corporation. Life is good!

What are your top three must have ellipsoidal gobos?
You can put gobos in those things? Pretty much every gobo I use these days is in a moving light. Guess that makes me kinda lame... My old school favorite was the ever popular pie tin plate poked full of nail holes!

If you could have dinner with any three people (living or dead) who would you be dining with?
Jesus, Ben Franklin, and my wife. She would be greatly displeased if I had dinner with those guys and didn't invite her! (insert whip cracking sound here)

If I listen to your i-Pod which three bands dominate the playlist?
Muse, Damone, Marvelous 3/Butch Walker and "Bonus Band" Iron fricken' Maiden

What was in one of your latest Vista driven rigs?
We recently did the Silpada 2009 National Convention at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO.
