Vista T4/T2 New Hardware Release

As a function of the RoHS legislation in Europe and other parts of the world, a number of parts within the Vista T4 and T2 consoles have become obsolete. This has necessitated a redesign of the CPU tray and tablet assembly. This tech note details the differences between the original V1 and new V2 consoles as a consequence of this redesign.

Affected Product
All Vista T4 and T2 consoles and CPU trays with serial numbers from A07XXX onwards, plus consoles and trays with serial number G06XXX.

Tablet
The V2 consoles use a new graphics tablet. This has the following ramifications:
The new tablet uses a different pen.
The tablet has been mounted upside down to obtain the best possible viewing angle for the operator.
The new tablet requires a different power supply voltage.

Additionally all V2 consoles will be supplied with two pens - one with a side switch and a second without.

New Pen
The photograph shows the original pen (left) compared to the two new pens supplied with each V2 console. The differences between the new and old pens are as follows:
The new pens are beige in colour, whereas the old pen is charcoal.
The new pens have a part number printed at the top, whereas the old pen has no part number.
The new pens have a slightly more curved shape.

Note that the colours and part numbers are for those pens supplied with the console. Other colour/part number pens are available from Wacom and the best way to check pen compatibility is to test it with the console it is to be used with.

The part numbers for the pens are as follows:

Description
Wacom #
Jands #
Old pen with switch
NA
ZLC5505
New pen with switch
IP-110-01
ZLC5515
New pen without switch
IP-100E-01
NA

Replacement pens can be obtained from Jands or a Wacom distributor. When buying a pen from Wacom, quote the Wacom tablet type from the following table to ensure the correct pen is supplied.

Console Version Wacom Tablet Type
V1 PL550
V2 DTI520

Inverted Tablet
The new tablet is mounted upside-down in the chassis to provide the best possible image quality possible to the user. While the display image rotation is handled within the console's operating software, there are two occasions where the rotation can be seen:
At initial startup where the BIOS boot information is inverted.
The tablet controls and tablet messages are inverted.

CPU
While almost identical on the outside, internally the design of the CPU tray has changed significantly:
The new CPU is a 1.8GHz Pentium M, compared to the original 2.8GHz Pentium 4. This represents a significant performance improvement.
The V2 consoles are fitted with 1GB RAM, whereas the original consoles are fitted with 512MB RAM.
The CPU assembly is now shock mounted within the tray.
The two original external monitor graphics cards have been replaced with a single dual-head graphics card.

Additionally the tablet supply voltage has been changed from 18VDC to 12VDC to suit the new tablet.

A new CPU tray can be identified by its serial number as previously indicated.

Other Changes
The keyboard and touchpad have been replaced with USB equivalent devices.

General Operation
In general the outward appearance and user experience for the V1 versus V2 console is identical. However from an in-service perspective there are a number of points to note:
Due to the change in the tablet supply voltage, V2 Tablet assemblies must be used only with V2 CPU trays, ie a new tablet must be used with a new tray and an old tablet must be used with an old tray.
The correct pen must be supplied with the console. A console arriving on site with the wrong pen will not be well received.
Software versions prior to 1.10 must not be used with a V2 console.
