A.C. Entertainment Technologies & University of Derby Raise the Bar for Production Technology Education
22nd September 2008

Following the recent partnership between A.C. Rigging, a division of A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd. (formerly known as A.C. Lighting Ltd.), and Out Board Electronics, the University of Derby's Sound, Light & Live Event Technology BSc programme has become one of the first beneficiaries of this collaboration.

As a long-standing and highly regarded customer of A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd's various sales divisions, the University of Derby approached A.C. Rigging for a solution to improve student's hands-on experience in this specialised field of entertainment technology.

Specified by A.C. Rigging sales executive, Paul Hadfield, the University of Derby opted for a powered rigging system to add to their existing manual version. Paul commented: "It was felt that the electrical system would better equip students with the experience and knowledge current in today's market, which they would ultimately be entering into. The University of Derby is renowned for providing highly qualified and highly sought after graduates to our industry and A.C. is proud to be associated with and assist the University in any way possible."

Equipment supplied included flightcased CM Lodestars, Out Board Electronics' latest low voltage motor controllers and trussing from Litec and Total Fabrications. Adding to the University's existing portfolio of lighting, sound and rigging equipment, the new additions will be semi installed in the department to allow undergraduates the best possible experience and training on this fully flexible and versatile system.

This supply also included an array of personal protective equipment (PPE) including work positioning, fall arrest equipment and load arrest blocks, ensuring a high degree of safety is maintained at all times and developing acceptable work practices for all those using it.

The University of Derby's Sound, Light & Live Event Technology Programme Leader, Simon Lewis remarked: "A.C. Rigging supplied our existing manual and ground support systems, and was our preferred choice for the new motorised rig. With Paul's invaluable help and knowledge, we've achieved a flexible, industry standard system that helps us further develop rigging skills. This is crucial for those students who are looking to obtain their National Rigging Certificate in the future. The new rigging system has already helped facilitate many events, including the 'Elements' show featured in industry press and a truss access techniques workshop held with Dan Dawson from Technical Stage Services Ltd."
