Color Span Lighting Provides Glowing Reception for Scampo Restaurant

17th November 2009

A.C. Lighting Inc. has supplied a Chroma-Q™ Color Span™ LED cove lighting and wall wash system to architectural lighting design and installation specialists, DesignLight Co. for the entrance of the Scampo restaurant in Boston. The sixth culinary destination created by award winning Chef Lydia Shire, Scampo is part of The Liberty Hotel; a popular downtown Boston destination regarded as an architectural gem and formerly an iconic Jail.

Due to its listed building status, the Scampo restaurant’s entrance was being lost on its front façade without any exterior signage. DesignLight Co. President and Lighting Designer, Len Schnabel, specified a Chroma-Q Color Span LED system for the foyer featuring custom configured red and amber LEDs. The lighting scheme highlights the rustic red brick interior of the entrance and projects the color onto the brick sidewalk, providing real ‘standout’ for the restaurant.

He commented: “The Chroma-Q Color Span fixture was an elegant solution and provided visual punch for the restaurant foyer. In working with an historic landmark building such as this, there were limitations to what lighting could be added to the exterior facade. By lighting the brick wall immediately inside the entrance with red and amber LEDs on a soft dissolve, we provided the attraction mechanism to achieve a greatly improved street presence for this stylish contemporary restaurant.”
